A young Australian man who fell from the rooftop of a four-storey building in South Korea is fighting for his life in hospital but his family fears he’s “unlikely to make it home” alive.
Angus Catt, 26, from Melbourne, was travelling with his brother Will in Seoul when the tragedy occurred on January 22.
Mr Catt, a carer for those on the NDIS, sustained significant chest and brain injuries as a result of the fall and was placed in an induced coma “in an attempt to save his life”.
His family and friends - who described him as an “infectious” and “larger-than-life character” - have since set up a fundraiser to help bring him home.
“Angus is currently in a critical condition and his medical expenses are rapidly mounting,” the MyCause fundraiser reads.
“Without further intensive and specialist treatment, he is unlikely to make it home to Australia.
“We are asking for assistance in supporting Angus’ medical costs, which we expect to exceed well over AUD $250,000.
“All donations will help cover medical expenses to give him the best possible chance.”
Multiple family members are now in Seoul with Mr Catt including his parents and his girlfriend.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Mr Catt’s mum Sally thanked donors who helped raise more than $200,000 in just a week.
“I know this is happening because of this huge worldwide support and love, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to absolutely everyone who has sent this to my boy,” she wrote.
She also provided an update on her son’s condition.
“Angus had slight eye movement, moved his mouth, and was moving his hand in response to Jim’s hand – so much more than we had expected,” she said.
“Angus’ medication is lightly being decreased, and he’s attempting to breathe independently. We are hopeful and encouraged by today’s events.”
Sally earlier posted that her son “had emergency surgery on his brain but has multiple injuries”.
“He’s in an induced coma and will not know anymore news of his chances of survival for the next few days but we are all hoping for a miracle,” she wrote on January 25.
